Whether it’s relaxing in our hot bubbling spa pool or lounging by the large cozy fireplace at the bar, Rainforest Retreat will ensure your stay is comfortable, cozy and truly memorable.
We are close to all Franz Josef village facilities including shops, service station, tour and sightseeing services, cafes and restaurants, and coach stops.
Rainforest Backpackers is located in the Franz Josef Glacier village, in the heart of New Zealand's Glacier Country, which is situated on the South Island's West Coast and is part of the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Area.
Purpose built in 2004 Rainforest Backpackers Hostel is perfectly situated on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island nestled into six acres of untouched New Zealand rain forest. Choose from single, twin or double rooms or a 4 or 6 bed dorm room, all with either en suite or shared facility options available. Alternatively, we also have tent sites available as part of our holiday park facility nearby.
The Rainforest staff will gladly assist in making your stay comfy and make sure that you have a great time. You'll find under floor heating, ensuring you're always warm and toasty, plenty of hot water and your bed ready made with big fluffy duvets.
Massage Therapist
Emma Giddens (Naturopath and Massage Therapist) has joined the team at Rainforest Retreat as our resident Massage Therapist.
In the past, Emma was a competitive cyclist (racing for New Zealand in 2008) and continues to enjoy adventures in the wilderness. Emma has traveled extensively and it was in SE Asia her passion for natural medicine deepened leading to studying towards a degree in Natural Medicine.
Also qualified in Sports Performance, Emma has recently combined her skills and experience to form her business Memorys Organics, specializing in making natural organic products and massage therapy.
Emma firmly believes in endeavouring to "Breathe life into your body and envision it as the healthy temple it is intended to be. See yourself as a thriving being.”
